Betty Jean (Lanam) Jacobs, 86, of Bloomington, passed away on Friday April 6, 2012 at Meadowood Health Pavilion surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born on August 7, 1925 in Indianapolis and was the daughter of Earl R. and S. Frances (Baugh) Lanam.
Betty was a librarian and teacher and had been the Head Librarian at Shortridge High School in Indianapolis and later at Washington High School in Washington. She was a long time and very active member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Business & Professional Women and was a former member of Mt. Gilead Christian Church.
Betty is survived by her son Peter Jacobs and his wife Patty of Hoffman Estates, IL, granddaughter Sarah Frances Jacobs, four sisters Barbara J. Daniels of Bloomington, Patricia L. Jones of Bradenton, FL, Margaret Sue May of Bloomington and Ann (Martin) Dyer of Bloomington, and one brother Leslie C. Lanam also of Bloomington. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and one great great niece
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45, years Albert L. Jacobs (1993), one brother Richard M. Lanam and her parents.
Services for Betty will be Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 1 pm at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St,. Bloomington with Rev. Curtis Hurley and Darlene Harbuck officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Gilead Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 9, 2012 from 4-8 pm at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard.

Note: the day of the funeral Wayne,husband, received word his sister had died in Macon, GA and we headed to Macon, GA.
As a colleague of Betty's at Washington High School.she and I became good friends. She was a very special person. I will always treasure our friendship.
