Leah Jane (Minnick) Stevens, 64 of Bloomington, passed away on Tuesday April 17, 2012 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital with her family by her side. She was born October 30, 1947 to Herbert and Catherine (Sparks) Minnick. She was a graduate of the old BHS and a 1969 graduate of Indiana University. She was employed for over 20 years by MCCSC where she was a teacher and health aide. She was a member of Little Union Baptist Church.
Surviving is her husband of 41 years Lynn Stevens, who cared for her daily during her illness. She is also survived by her two wonderful sons Brant Adam Stevens of Bloomington and Jonathan Kyle Stevens of Loogootee. She was very proud of both of her sons. Also surviving are her brother Lloyd Minnick and wife Esther, who was her idol, and her sister Peggy Sisson and her husband Herbert, with whom she was very close. Other survivors include her nephews Andy and Ben Minnick, nieces Debbie Carrithers, Pam Thompson, Angie Sisson and Jennifer Andrews, great nephews Carson Andrews, Kyle Thompson, Dallas Carrithers and cousin Virginia Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her mother and father-in-law Lesley and Loisnell Stevens.
Janie loved riding her horses, which she rode daily until her illness, and playing with her dogs. She loved the outdoor life. Janie also enjoyed working with her husband on the family farm and gardening until her illness.
Services will be 1:30 pm Friday April 20, 2012 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street, Bloomington. Burial will follow at Little Union Cemetery.
Visitation for Janie will be Thursday April 19, 2012 from 4-8 pm at The Funeral Chapel.

I am so sorry to read about the passing of your sister, Leah Jane. Esther, I'm not surprised to read you were her "idol." Clearly, you both were blessings in her life. My sympathy to you both.
