I am really saddened by this news. Jerry was a close friend during my High School and College years in Bloomington and I enjoyed his humor, taste for life and sense of responsibility. It is always nice to know that classy people like Jerry are still around in today's world. Everyone will miss him.

I still smile when I think of Jerry - the picture is perfect! I work in probation had had multiple opportunities to cross paths with Jerry throughout the years.... He was funny, honest, and a bit of a goof, at times!! A favorite story with Jerry was shortly after my (now 23 year old) daughter received her license she had a 'minor' incident. As my daughter tried to explain what happened, through the tears, I had her on speaker phone to help understand what she was TRYING to tell me...Jerry walked by office, heard her sobbings and, very sincerely offered to come to 'the scene' and "put her in handcuffs" if I wanted! Of course he was laughing the entire time he offered... He will be missed.

I first met Jerry around 1970. He had been a lifeguard, like I had. We struck up a friendship that lasted for years. At one point I ended up living next door to he and his wife on the north side of Bryan park.
Sorry Jerry, I will miss you.

We grew up across the street from Jerry and his family. We were constantly involved in games in Bryan park and many antics that young boys do. His brother Richard was a master mind of activities such as the "Royal Order of the Foxtail." I lost contact with Jerry over the years but always knew he was my friend for life. We lost a great one.

Jerry was one of those special people. We were shocked at his passing as he was so full of life. Oh, the Jerry Reed stories we could tell from down through the years. He could be very persuasive and we'll let it go at that.

Rest in peace our friend!

I worked with Jerry for 5 years and he quickly befriended me making me feel more at ease in my first real job. He and I shared many stories and he visited me as a friend when I needed one. He used to pull me over just so he could chat and say hi. I haven't spoken with him in a few years but hearing of his passing is bringing back many memories. He was a good man who I will remember fondly and I am sad he is gone too soon.

I was very saddened and suprised to read of Jerry's passing. We were friends in high school, but I hadn't seen or heard from him in many years. One day, out of the blue, Jerry called me to discuss my thoughts on his possible career change (railroad detective). We talked for some time. It was like we had been in touch daily over the years. I have only very good memories of Jerry. He was a wonderful person, and he leaves us far too soon. RIP brother. You will be missed very much.

I have known Jerry for a little over a year though it will take a life time for me to get over his passing.Jerry had "gotten it." He knew that relationships with people, and the gift of his time to them was what mattered. He met few strangers and had a knack of being able to feel comfortable in most circles, using laughter to endear himself to others. He was fiercely loyal and protective to family and loved ones. He was and is my rock and my heart .

I joined the Bloomington Police Department the same year Jerry became a deputy sheriff. Jerry was one of the most colorful law enforcement officers in Monroe County. Most police officers in the Monroe County probably have a Jerry Reed story to tell. He was a good guy to have a cup of coffee with and share a laugh. Sorry for his passing.

What a shock to wake up and see Jerry in the Obits. I still haven't processed it. What a wonderful man he was. Always ready to help, not afraid to say when he didn't know something but always ready to help find out. Funny. A policeman whom a person could respect. He will not be replacable.

I am still in disbelief that Jerry is gone. Jerry and I worked together at the Sheriff's Department for 9 years, and had some of the best times. It was never boring with Jerry around! I true friend you could depend on. Sorry I didn't see him when I was in Bloomington in December. He will be truly missed in the community and in my life.
