Bloomington, February 8, 2010: The messages are simple ones: “Thank you so much for what you do. We always need you.” That’s just one of many sweet messages from the hearts of local children that will be delivered to soldiers overseas in a project called “Operation Valentine”.
The Funeral Chapel and The Prep School Academy (a private elementary school serving grades K-4) joined together to support our troops for Valentine’s Day. They felt it was the perfect time for our community to remind the troops that we appreciate them.
“They’re away from loved ones,” said Eric Powell of The Funeral Chapel, “so they really want to know that people back home
appreciate them”. The Valentines are delivered to solders in Iraq, Afghanistan, and throughout the world, wherever US troops are stationed. “These heartfelt messages are such a morale boost.” Powell said.
The Funeral Chapel is committed to supporting our troops. In addition to their participation in Operation Valentine, they are also an official collection center for Cell Phones for Soldiers.
The program collects and recycles old cell phones, then uses funds generated to provide pre-paid calling cards to troops serving overseas so they may stay in touch with loved ones. The Funeral Chapel is dedicated to respectfully and compassionately providing funeral services that create a meaningful final tribute, while also taking special care to the unique needs of family and friends left behind. Their facility is located at 3000 E Third St., in Bloomington. You may contact The Funeral Chapel by phone: 812.333.4400.
